Philip Braham: Studio Tour
Philip Braham (b. 1959) is an artist based in Crieff, Perthshire. His painting, Dreaming Ophelia (2012) featured in the exhibition New Ways of Seeing: Scottish Art Schools at Perth Museum and Art Gallery in 2020 and is part of the permanent collection.
Braham was born in Glasgow in 1959 and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone between 1976 and 1980. He completed a Postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Holland the following year. He then undertook a year of research as visiting artist at the University of California in Los Angeles, before returning to Scotland. Since 2000, he has worked as a part-time lecturer in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone. Braham first came to prominence in the 1980s with the rise of figurative painting in Scotland. He works in both painting and photography, which are informed by the Romantic Tradition’s evocation of landscape as a metaphor for the human condition.
