I was a student and post-graduate student at Duncan of Jordanstone from 1960-1966. My years of study were extremely enjoyable and convivial. I was fortunate enough to be awarded a number of travelling scholarships, most notably The Carnegie Travelling Scholarship from the Royal Scottish Academy which I used to go to the Greek National Academy of Art in Athens. Greek mythology has always been a rich source of subject matter for my sculptural output and such is the case with Niobe. My time in Greece provided me with an unending source of fascination and inspiration which I return to regularly in my work.

If I hadn't been a painter, I've not the slightest idea what I would have done, but I'm pleased I spent my life painting. For better or for worse, I've inflicted my paintings on the world, but I paint because I've had such endless entertainment from what I've found around me...
